A directory of the public and private institutions that offer the undergraduate degree in actuarial science (Licenciatura en Actuaría) in Mexico, checked against each institution's official website.
Actuarial science has been taught in Mexico since 1947, when UNAM approved the first curriculum, the first degree of its kind in Latin America. Today more than thirty programs train actuaries at public and private universities in 15 states. We checked this list against each institution's official website (last update: October 17, 2026), and every name links to the program page. Campuses with their own curriculum or RVOE (official SEP recognition of studies) count as separate programs, such as UNAM's two schools or the campuses of the Anáhuac and La Salle networks.

Note: some institutions often associated with the degree, including the IPN, do not actually offer the Licenciatura en Actuaría but related programs (Applied Mathematics, Physics and Mathematics, Financial Management). This list includes only actuarial programs verified as active in 2026. In October 2026 we also reviewed other institutions that often come up in searches or in the ANUIES data (Universidad de Guadalajara, Tecnológico de Monterrey, UNIR México, Universidad de Sonora, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes, among others) and left them out because their official offering shows no actuarial science degree or because we could not confirm one on the institutional website.
One profile per institution with start year, length, accreditation and curriculum focus, ordered by enrollment (ANUIES 2024-2025). Each profile links to the official program page and, where available, to the curriculum map. Data verified in official sources in July 2026; the last profiles, added in October 2026, cover programs incorporated into the directory in that review. "n/a" = not available from an official source.

According to the ANUIES Statistical Yearbook of Higher Education Enrollment (ANUIES is Mexico's National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions), in the 2024-2025 school year the "Statistics and Actuarial Science" field had 10,198 undergraduate students nationwide. After checking each record against its institution's official offering, enrollment in verified actuarial science programs adds up to 9,275 students; the rest belongs to statistics, data science or graduate programs and to records we could not confirm (details in the full dataset).

Adding the Faculty of Sciences (1,976) and FES Acatlán (1,480), UNAM trains almost 4 in 10 of the country's actuaries. The top five institutions (UNAM, UAEMéx, UANL, BUAP and the Anáhuac network) account for 72% of verified actuarial science enrollment.
Source: ANUIES, Anuario Estadístico de la Población Escolar en Educación Superior (Statistical Yearbook of Higher Education Enrollment), 2024-2025 school year (undergraduate level), detailed field "Statistics and Actuarial Science" of the ISCED (UNESCO) taxonomy. Accessed in July 2026 at anuario.anuies.mx. The field groups statistics with actuarial science; the actuarial figures exclude programs identified as statistics, data science or graduate study (e.g., Universidad Veracruzana, CIMAT and Chapingo) as well as unverified records. Percentages are computed over verified actuarial enrollment (9,275), reviewed in October 2026.
These are the 51 institutional records that ANUIES reports in the "Statistics and Actuarial Science" field for the 2024-2025 school year, with women, men, first-year students and graduates. We checked each record against the institution's official website: 34 are verified actuarial science degrees (9,275 students), 12 are programs that are not actuarial science (792 students) and 5 could not be verified on an official site (131 students).

Only the 19 states with at least one record in the field appear. Guerrero is missing even though the Universidad Autónoma de Guerrero offers the Licenciatura en Actuaría y Ciencia de Datos: its enrollment is not classified in this field of the Yearbook.
The data come from the ANUIES Statistical Yearbook of Higher Education Enrollment, 2024-2025 school year, undergraduate level. The Yearbook covers institutions that are members of ANUIES as well as non-members, and classifies each program under the ISCED (UNESCO) taxonomy, whose finest detailed field for our discipline is "Statistics and Actuarial Science".
Because that field groups actuarial science with statistics, its figures are an upper bound for actuarial enrollment proper. At the same time, some actuarial programs may be classified in another field, such as Mathematics, so the total should not be read as a ceiling for the profession either: it is a floor-to-central reference. The Universidad Autónoma de Guerrero, absent from the data despite having an active program, illustrates that limit.
UNAM appears in two states: in Mexico City with the Faculty of Sciences (1,976 students) and in the State of Mexico with FES Acatlán (1,480), for a total of 3,456. National enrollment in the field is 10,198 students, 58% men and 42% women; first-year students number 2,771 and graduates 1,958.
The verification tags are an actuaria.mx addition and are not part of the Yearbook: they come from checking each institution against its official academic offering in October 2026. The CSV file reproduces the Excel figures in flat format, one row per institution, with an extra column for that verification.
Each university has its own curriculum map, but actuarial programs in Mexico share a similar backbone of 8 to 9 semesters (4 to 4.5 years):
| Stage | Knowledge areas | Representative courses |
|---|---|---|
| Foundations (1st to 3rd) | Core mathematics | Differential and integral calculus, higher and linear algebra, analytic geometry, programming. |
| Probability (3rd to 5th) | Probability and statistics | Probability I and II, statistical inference, stochastic processes, numerical analysis. |
| Finance (4th to 6th) | Finance and economics | Financial mathematics, micro and macroeconomics, accounting, theory of interest. |
| Actuarial (5th to 8th) | Actuarial mathematics | Life and non-life actuarial mathematics, risk theory, demography, pensions, reserving and reinsurance. |
| Applied (7th to 9th) | Specialization and data | Survival models, financial risk, data science and machine learning, seminars and internships. |
Look beyond reputation: review the curriculum (its balance of mathematics, finance, statistics and programming), accreditation, agreements for sitting international exams (SOA/CAS), ties with insurers, consulting firms and Afores (pension fund managers), and how close the campus is to home. After graduation, the Colegio Nacional de Actuarios (CONAC) certifies professional practice.
